It's the way they are sold here. You can get 'buntched plants' which are cuttings with no root structure, or single potted plants with good root structre. The reason the others never took off I atributed to the lack of roots and them not establishing them selves quick enough to survive. hence why I got the single plants. Like I said everything now everything will be ordered on line to save any further problems. It's too hit and miss walking to lfs over here, it's take what ever is suitable there. I will know exactly what I'm getting and is there is any confusion you are always on hand with the advise.

I did map it out and still intend to follow the orginal plan once the plants get going. As soon as I start to see a good growth starting I'm going to move everything around to how I want it. Halve the tank is still full of testers still so there is no point getting it the way I want it until they are sorted out.

I know I'm making basic mistakes but I wanted to do it in public so others could learn from the experince and guidance

I'm sure the cats will enjoy their new toy;)

Actaully I think thats not the best plant for a cats health, but if you get say 2 more storks and plant them altogether they do make a nice grouping. Note: I'm not a big fan of Cats unless there Catfish. If cats eat that plant it well have the same effect on them as it's having on the smiley below.
:barf:

Ok dude listen your starting to make less and less sense. Appearently you have never done any gardening. You don't put plants in your tank let them grow out a bit and then uproot them and replant them, you will mess up the root structure. Which in turn throws the plant into shock, causing the plants leaves in some cases to turn brown or just stop growing altogether until the plant resettles.

I'm not sure how your plants come over on the darkside. Here alot of rooted plants come planted in a root started or what some places call a plant pot. Its some sort of man made material contained in a plastic like caging. When you purchase plants in this type of packaging, regardless of how large or tightly contained the root structure is in this material all one need do is just cut away the plastic caging, leaving material intact around the roots and them plant in your tank substrate. The roots will quickly grow out and past this material which seems to break down over time any how.

Dude remember plant you tank once, or in small groupings, leaving a alittle room for growth and the occasional odd LFS find and then keep your hairy, uncleaned hands and arms out of the tank. Your Discus will appeciate it too.

:WHOA:
Do you have any idea how many people on a daily bases roll up there sleeves or remove there shirts and just drive on into there tank with one or both arms, and don't even give thought to that scented soap they bathed with that morning or that hand sanitizer they just finished using (LFS), or the Best yet, do you have any idea the havoc that your bodies chemistry combined with whatever deodorant you use causes to your fish and your tanks chemistry? And you and every other Discus keeper going is oh so worried about there water chemistry!
:duh:

Co2 injection is more for heavily planted tanks that won't support discus or other larger fish - the aquascaping nuts who think it's acceptable to take a 120 gallon tank and put a few tetra in it. Freaks!
MONSTER Planted Tanks... hmmm... that could be a nice topic... no big fish but huge planted tanks... can you imagine the amount of hard work and dedication? "Freak" would be a major compliment... :)

Yeah, I always wanted to do a 300G ~ 500G planted Discus tank, but it would require alot of dedication and 1 possibly 2 phases of Discus and a few maintenance fish.

What is hard to understand about throwing a few testers into a substrate that you thought a $150 was a good investment on ?

Are you trying to insult my intelligence, when it come to planted tanks I respect your input but to say I don't know what a plant pot is too far ? I know I'm making mistakes thats why I started the thread do you want me to post the entire pm research that you were happy to give me on a public forum, we'd have 4 million peeps telling we're wrong. I started this thread syaing I wanted to go down one line because of this

10% of all plants of here come like that, your point? that's why I'm going online. The other 90% come as cuttings that are not worth anything:confused:

point taken.........

It must be pain for you to understand that I wash and dry my arms and hands before I go near one of the tanks I have no idea where you get his from

:duh:
I know I'm making mistakes a public flaming is not required especially from my mentor

Yanbbrox

Ok, you know what from now on I'm just going to use :thumbsdow or . Because it seems that when I say stuff, it's taken the wrong way.

Guys, let's chill a bit, ok? :)

Yanbbrox my friend, I'm sure the Tequila dude didn't mean to be flaming - I guess it's his usual humorous way of adding his valuable input. I know I enjoy his posts a lot - they are always bits of valuable knowledge presented in an hilarious package and that's what makes him a well-appreciated friend and forum member (+ I want to get his GGs - either as pets or as food!) :D

Tequila bro, this man Yanbbrox is going bonkers trying to learn the intricate ropes of planted discus tanks. What he needs here is a huge chunk of encouragement. Criticism, albeit constructive, should (according to humble me) be nicely wrapped in flowery diplomacy.

I'm sure he's worried to death about his precious discus, knowledgeable as he is in their fragile and sensitive nature. As in regards to the plants, I know you are right about their health, the way that they should be grouped and the pots to support them, etc yet I believe that the Y guy is experimenting to build up is aquatic gardening knowledge - so this accounts for the individual plants placed here and there. I know I would have done the same to note the way they are growing, what's working and what's not, etc. The key word here is "experiment". :) As soon as he feels confident, I'm sure brother Yanbbrox will start the actual aquascaping AND this where indeed all your input will come into major play!

This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us out there to see the creation of a beautiful planted discus tank - with its ups and downs. :) All in all, let's not get rubbed the wrong way please.

:) And, by all means, please keep the pictures coming!

I'm American we don't do flowery diplomacy, we do SHOCK an AW!:headbang2Have'nt you seen how well thats worked for us so far? :hitting:

Otherwise everything else said, my answer is:

Now it's 2am and I'm sort of pissed off that my RTGG have decided to beat the crap out of my 2 new Albino Tinfoil barbs, which means that I now have to set up another tank to grow out the barbs. And since a 55G with just 2 barbs in it going to look like crap, I'll have to put at least 5 other fish in there too. Or I could just fish the RTGG out and have a fish fry.
:FIREdevil

Man you gotta love these Smiley's

Sorry dude, I was in a bad mood:thumbsdow, hacked off with the whole idea:thumbsdow, flicked the pc on and read your message and lashed out a bit. My bad:thumbsdow

I hope you continue in your American ways of telling it how it is instead of the new thumb system

I know what your like and should have taken time out rather than just typing away without engaging first gear:thumbsdow
