If they jump, they would be Silver Carp. They don't eat baitfish. They do, however, eat algae and plantlike phytoplankton, which decreases the oxygen levels ibn the water. plus, the jumping itself is dangerous...you can easily be knocked out cold by a big Silver Carp to the head.

To get a good idea of the jumping ability of Silver Carp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb8OmEr7VqI

but its maryland and silver carp live in the big Mississippi and also carp are good if they come from good water. Thats the problem in the western world they threw carp into mud holes because they can survive hell and then expect them to taste good. In asia they are kept in cold clean water and actually very good.

these are plain old common carp.
and yes they're eating plants that baitfish would eat thus eliminating food sources for game fish.

Excuse me but the last time I checked Baitfish, Yes Baitfish, Baitfish for LMB are Shinners, Bluegills, Sunfish, Baby Carp, Crawfish, Frogs, Shrimp, sm mudfish, sm trout and the list goes on and on heck Leeaches, dragonflies, etc, etc, and you think what that carp are eating all of the above? give me a break. People BASS aren't the only fish out there and they sure as heck aren't the only ones that people should be so dam concern with. Ehhhhh..... wait a few more LMB dishes I thought of... baby and sm Catfish, grasshoppers, CP babies, Suckers, baby plecos and anything else that fits in there mouths. I really don't think that CARP are eating all of these creatures. And lord know aquatic plants grow faster than anything I can think of, don't believe me ask the State of Florida. Where they import Carp to try and control the Plant problem.

Well guess what, as things would be I have made the proper arragement that will allow me too visit Florida one more time before the end of this year and then into next year. That's right folks I just finished booking flights and what not too Florida for more than 3 full weeks of fun in the Sun and fishing fishing and more fishning, from Dec 15Th through to Jan almost 10Th. Look out Florida here I come and yes I will be keeping a Bass a day for my dad along with panfish and with any luck a few good saltwater fish too.

As far as posting pics if anyone is interested my fishing buddy has notified me that he now has a small hand held flip video camera and that the hot lure right now are rattle traps, worms and spinnerbaits. Though both my reels are still in for repair, I will be purchasing at least one maybe two new reels upon arrival.

Anyone interested in making contact should do so ASAP. I will be posting I believe to this thread for the rest of '09, unless theres some objection - I'm not sure if I should post pics here after in 2010 but I will deal with that when the time comes. I'll still have 16 days of fishing and video recording in '09 and yes I will be fishing on all sixteen of those days, including Christmas. I just hope my hands don't lock up! And that I haven't just jinxed myself here,eh hehehe.

Anyone interested I am always interested in Fishing and Herping almost all the time, I say almost because my folks aren't getting any younger so I will be spend time with them. And I dought I will be driving 100s of miles just for a chance at this or that fish, but you never know.

Silver Carp are also found in the Great Lakes area. Unfortunately it might only be a matter of time before they are in the Great Lakes.
