'Frankensalmon' ruled safe to eat: Fast-growing GM fish approved by scientists

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bet it tastes terrible.

i'm glad you cleared that up for everyone with such an articulate retort. you have won me over with this irrefutable argument, i NOW get exactly what you're saying... :p

This was a good thread, i learned a lil bit but then it started getting silly when people stop bringing facts to the table and started bringing beliefs

There's no way I'd eat it! Who made up the rule that bigger is better anyway? Why can't they just leave nature be

:headbang2

Are you kidding me? it's human nature. We as humans, especially in the U.S., want more of everything (perferable for less too). There's just way way too many examples

leave nature alone though? go release all your fish then. Just abandon the hobby all together because nature doesn't have man keeping fish in acrylic or glass boxes in their house/office/basement etc

Atleast fully commite to your belief if you're going to bring it up

:) Okay, go eat a mutant, then.

If you have proof that eating corrupted DNA is so safe, show it. What has been done to these fish is not selective breeding within the confines of survivable adaptation, but the brute flicking of a switch not meant to be flicked. Are we eating excess growth hormone with the tissue? What amino components are left behind when this excess growth hormone is cooked?

have patience, the FDA is working on it. if i want cheaper salmon i'll have to trust their research because i have neither the time or the means to do it myself.

allow me to turn the question around on you; what proof do you have that they are dangerous?

you're taking a strong stance on unanswered questions.

Good read. My question though is since fish are growing larger in less time wouldn't it reduce the amount of feed that was needed? it basically helped eleviate the problem in your "corn to cow to jags to human consumption" scenario.

Negative. Like Knifegill said, NO animal can create energy without using atleast as much energy to create that energy. IE balancing an equation in science. One of Newtons laws is matter cannot be created nor destroyed. All that exists now will exist forever, in terms of elements. Take burning a piece of wood for example, well when you burn the wood it doesn't just disappear, all the elements that made up the wood are still in existence, just in the form of ash, gases, and smoke.

IE: 1 pound of salmon = 1 pound of salmon, no more and no less.

The FDA can be bought. I want to see the studies.

The FDA still recommends beef as a food for people! Decades after it has been shown to be carcinogenic, raise blood pressure, etc. Never trust the FDA, they are just a puppet for whoever has the most money.
