Me too…. Now … I put the gourami with the JD everything is fine so far ….. I am watching today after tonight I won’t have any worries!!

Yea that’s what I am agreeing with…. Now at least…. So I went ahead and added the gourami with my JD…. There’s plenty of room in my 55 gallon and today I am observing it closely and then as long as my jack Dempsey makes it for tonight I will be OK
If the gourami tried to pick a fight I’d bet the jd would win, cichlids are much tougher.
For now they should be fine, jd probably won’t get to bad with it till about 3-4 inches.

Well you couldn’t be more correct that JD runs the gourami LOL ? it’s so small but I went ahead and put them together and the JD seems happy having someone to boss around!!!! LOL ? I am absolutely so much happier than I was being thrown into the care of a JD at 6” cause this is my first baby 2nd JD…… also I was told F JD fish can cause more trouble what would someone mean by that…. Is caring for a female any different from caring for a male of the same species?? Idk ?

Males will be more outwardly aggressive, but when a female lays eggs - she will go crazy defending the nest. Cichlid aggression is at its worst when you have a male and female pair that is breeding.

This is wonderful news and that’s exactly what I am doing and considering adding a 2nd cichlid when this one is 3” and I have a male EBA but they are so gentle I don’t think I could combine them…….. but if I were to add in a 2nd one or grow one out in my 55 for my 75 what type cichlid would I need???
Also today I got a really close look almost 2” round fins with 4 blue dots under each eye I’m honestly already thinking I may have a female at least she came from a breeder that I trust !!! After last time…. Idk ?

If you are going to do another cichlid, I would either get a few more jd now and wait till a pair forms, or go with a convict or rainbow cichlid. They are tough and can hold their own in a fight, or stay out of one completely. Convict is meaner and would probably be safer, but rainbows can be quite mean as well. Both get about 4 inches or so.
My jd is with a blood parrot, convict, banded leporinus, and a krib (which nobody ate early on and now it’s big).

Ok I see well I was thinking about jewel cichlids no male all female is that a bad idea??
Jewel are a toss up - some can be mild, others can be pure evil. A solo is far less aggressive than a pair. Nothing a Jack can’t handle but I’d have a backup plan in case.
What if I did 1 jewel and 1 butterfly cichlid but wait until my JD can hold good ground just in case ??? I’m really looking for a cichlid that is not a convict those rainbows are expensive and my pet store won’t sell less than 6 at a time….. I have a krib in a 10 gallon started trying to kill of my community crazy little lady LOL ?
