I just picked up a white saum yesterday, a 4.5" male. I love him already. Even if a green terror did eventually out grow your 55 it would take a long time. They are very slow growers

This is very true. In one of your earlier posts you said that upgrading your tank was not an option because you lived with your parents. I would suggest saving your money for a 75 gallon now, because in the time that it will take for a male GT to out grow the 55 gal you will be at least 18 and old enough to move out on your own.

I have a male Gold Saum that was 1.5" when I got him and in last year he has only grown to be a little under 4". I have no idea how long it will take for him to be full grown but at this rate he will only be about 8" in another year.

I think growth rate us affected by many things.... Tank size, water changes. Food, and most importntly genes.... Im sure a gt can grow 6 inches first year and then slow down thats wat happened to mine...

that is true..i could get a 75 right now for 75 dollars..i know someone in Michigan who will sell me a fish tank for a dollar a gallon..but i dont got the license so i cant go there..plus its downstate..but anyways um yes i will be 18 by then but i will be gone soon as i got my High School Diploma..ill be going into the United States Air Force for Basic Training then hopefully into my dream of Pararescue and if end up failing that as i will be proud to try and serve as a PJ..ill join Space Ops for rockets or possibly MP..

yes genetics play a HUGE role in fish dominance and other things such as growth rate..thats what i do believe in as well:)

so since this thread is going in a bunch of directions can you guys justify yes or no for a green terror..and what sex im thinking a female would be more safe

i will have to say no in a 55....... mine grew up to 7.5'' in about a year but it all depends on the fish.... females will grow slower and will probably stay a little smaller... still i think no fish over 7'' should be kept in a 55..... there are many other fish you can keep such as rams,apistos,convicts,firemouths,salvinis,.... you can add 1 or 2 of these fish a few dithers some sand decorations to your taste and you have yourself a wonderful tank..

A gt should not be housed in anything smaller than a 75..... sure you can grow them out like I did but in about a year they will outgrow it.... remember males get 10-12'' making a 55 too small because 55 are only 12''' in width....

what are the dimensions i think 55 longs are still only 12'' wide.... rams are great looking.. i would go with salvinis males look nice once mature.... i think females should still reach about 7-8''.... anyways females dont have much color which is why everyone has males unless they have a pair....
