American children are 16 times more likely to be murdered with a gun, 11 times more likely to commit suicide with a gun, and nine times more likely to die in a firearm accident than children in these other countries [3].

What do we know about kids and gun accidents and suicides?
When researchers studied the 30,000 accidental gun deaths of Americans of all ages that occurred between 1979-1997, they found that preschoolers aged 0-4 were 17 times more likely to die from a gun accident in the 4 states with the most guns versus the 4 states with the least guns. Likewise, school kids aged 5-14 were over 13 times more at risk of accidental firearm death in the states with high gun ownership rates. The findings indicate that gun availability is associated with accidental death by shooting [4]."

I wonder if the rate of motor vehicle deaths among children under age 15 is almost 12 times higher in the United States than in 25 other industrialized countries combined ... or if children in the US are nine times more likely to die in a motor vehicle than children in these other countries?

Believe me, I'm grown up, and mature. But at the same time that doesn't mean I need to think like a mindless media puppet. You made some rationale points earlier, but lost all credibility when you started accusing the OP of owning guns simply as a machismo/egotistical thing.

No it's not. It's for children aged 0 to 14. I haven't seen any kids under 14 with a driver's license.

What does it matter? It's THE LEADING CAUSE of child deaths in the USA. You like to play the stats game, but turn a blind eye when the stats go against your argument right?

How does this make one irresponsible? he is educating her. And is an educated gun owner himself.....

My daughter is only 7 now-I take her everytime we go shooting.She even has her own sig mosquito (.22 cal)...Hell there are still younger yet that go hunting....She is more educated on firearm safety than most teens/young adults i come across....

It's all about knowledge in this field.......

This is how I feel:

I don't like guns mainly because in the heat of the moment, a readily available gun can make bad things happen really fast(worse than knives/hammer/chainsaw etc)

As for kids around guns: If the parents are responsible, then they will raise a gun conscious kid who will be safer around guns; but this does not guarantee things: note the kid who shot his dad because he was tired of the father's discipline(they used to hunt together)

If not, then most likely their genes won't be passed down...(or their wealth if they happen to hurt others)

I never said to not "educate".............. and teach your children... But to put a photo of your child on MFK holding a AK47 does not make you a man.. it makes you look like an irresponcible father... and believe me ...Marines do make the man... i will not comment anymore... enough is said.. and i could debate this all day... said and done!
