I got two jaguar cichlids the other day and one is darker than the other one. Does anyone know what gender they are yet? And also why is there color different.

Does anyone else know their gender or how long it will take to be able to tell what gender they will become?

Jags can be tough, usually around 5 inches or so sometimes alittle earlier. But that’s a good base

I had one that I was sure was female at 3 inches. Then right around 7 inches it completely changed color patterns and finnage came in and I was shocked.

Do you think since the darker one has thicker lines it could end up becoming a male and have them turned in spots. I don’t know if thickness of lines mean anything

Honestly no telling right now my friend. Keep them happy and healthy and you’ll be able to tell when their bigger.

nope, will have to wait till there about 5 inches as stated, some times earlier but normally no, venting at that age is really not helpful unless you are a professional and then iffy.

They both look fine to me. they start getting getting bigger hope you have a nice large tank for them, and just them, with a divider. preferable a 145g pluss.
