Gof
So I went and priced out the fish using The Wet Spot's prices.

Tank 1) Africans So surprisingly they have 15 different adult males in stock for a grand total of $565 for 15 different males. I would have to piecemeal this one for sure.

Tank 2) this one by far is the cheapest, $27 for the Swordtails and 60 yo 70 for shipping the JDs so less than one Benny all in.

Tank 3) Firemouths tank. This one is a bit more than the JDs. All in 14 cichlids, 6 pictus cats, 20 Serpae tetras $180[/QUOTE

Go for the firemouth option, I will do the same as I mentioned in my thread and we can compare notes. Would be fun to see how we both progress and can post some pics to see how it's all going for each other,.It might cost more but I guess you don't have to add all the fish at once to keep the budget under control.
I am suprised the J.D tank works out cheaper, wouldn't be the case here in oz.
Will be interesting to see how we both approach the same project, sounds like we are both aiming for the same result so it would be cool to see how we go about achieving it, maybe we can battle it out in tank of the month once we are finished (in a freindly way of course!)

LOL

Ok sounds like a plan. Firemouth tank it is.
So going off of the stock list The Wet Spot has up right now. This will be what I have in mind.

Thorichthys meeki x7. @$4 each
Thorichthys aureus x7. @$6 each
Or
Thorichthys pasioni x7. Not avail atm
Corydoras sterbai x8. @$8 each
Xiphophorus hellerii x3. @$9 each. (Sold in a trio of 1m 2f, not sure yet if pineapple or red, will have to see what looks better in person)
So if nothing changes this is $160
Sounds like a solid plan I think. Like I said won't be getting fish till August.
I can't wait.

Cool, let's do it. I probably won't be ready to get started until september myself but this will keep me focused and stop me from changing my mind and thinking about other setups.
Only problem is once we have moved house and done some renovations and got all the new furniture my wife wants I will be lucky if I can afford a few feeder goldfish for my tank!

This is what I went with in my 125g, I've been picking up my fish locally so I picked up more common variants, 15 Thorichthys Meeki, 10 Red Eye Tetras, 4 Yellow Lyretail Mollies, and a 4" Raphael Cat. I'll probably pick up a few more live bearers and thin the Meeki colony as they develop if they start getting too rambunctious. I'm hoping the Raphael will help keep the fry down in the tank.

It's a fun tank, you're going to enjoy it. These Meeki are constantly scavenging or sparring, some are just starting to get a bit of adult coloration; looking forward to seeing this tank mature.

A couple months back the ex gave me a big ok piece of driftwood that was in her tank. Been out of water for about a year, so since it doing nothing atm, new tank is soak tank

You know I am really thinking of doing the JD tank. I made a promise to myself that when I get a second big tank, I would have some of Jack's kids sent over and grow them out, and keep a pair. Now that I got that new tank it's all I can think of...

So what I am thinking

3x Jack's EB fry
3x Yankeejack's Platinum JD fry
3x Albino Marble Hoplo catfish
9x Swordtails 3m6f
2x Albino Blue Eyes bushynose pleco

Can adjust any of these numbers. Also is Hoplo's a good catfish for JD's, not to small? Only getting 6in in size.
I saw that the Wet Spot got some in looked them up and was surprised they are a neet looking catfish, tho it's SA not CA.

Let nature take its course and keep what ever the best pair of JDs turns out to be of the 3EB fry and 3Plat fry. Or should I go 1m2f JD's? The 125 would be thier forever home. Starting with a fx4 for filtration, can add more when they get bigger. Starting with smallish fish 2in'ish...

Man, what about the intercontinental firemouth challenge?
Seriously this sounds like a cool tank, go with what you really want. It would be good to grow out some decendants of your old fish.
You have the skills to make it a success so go with it if that's what has you excited.
Hoplos are really cool too, I had some that died when I moved house years ago, was sad To see them go after 3 years. They are greedy though and cause chaos with plants and things but are tough enough to deal with he jacks.
