My fish room renovation project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tanks are 6 ft L X 1.5 ft W X 1.5 ft H

I just bought cheap construction pine lumber at the home depot. I would say if your tank is similar dimensions it hold up just fine. I think I could park a car on this tank stand.

In preperation for the transfer of females I removed a bunch of the rocks from there tank so that we can actually catch them when the time comes here is the new aquascape:

In other news prior to the water change I snapped some more photos of the stock so you can see how they are progressing:

These two shell dwellers own half of that bottom 100 gallon tank all to them selves the others you see hiding in the photo are out of place from the water change

Next photos should be of holding female red empress chilling in one of those 20 gallon tanks.

We relocated the 3 hold female red empress and no sooner than 1.5 hours later the one with the most bulging mouth let out about 20-25 fry. She quikly reclaimed them after I walked in the room and was only able to get two usable photos of a few stragglers.

I'm really excited I didn't expect more than 5-15 fry from any of these small females.

Ok well there are definitely 20 or more fry from that female and she's stopped taking them up in her mouth this weekend. our female in our far left tank spit out fry this weekend but I haven't been able to see the full grouping of fry yet, could be 10 could be 30. I'll try and sneak up on her tonight. When I can I'll take more photos and upload them.

All 3 females have let there fry out and we have 10 then 10 and 25 from the looks of it going from left to right on the tanks. In the 110 another 2 females have spawned and are holding eggs. Tomorrow I have off work so I plan to do musical fish and bump the three moms back into the bottom 100 and combine the fry to the right tank and then place the two holding females in the other two tanks.

Question being what is the best way to move fry?

During the tank work I plan to grab you guys some new and improved pictures of our stock.

pictures pictures I know... They have been taken but not yet uploaded. Any way we have a total of over 50 red empress fry, almost 60 by our estimates. Also the demasoni spawned a while ago and we finally removed that female to her own tank till we can strip her of the fry. 2 other red empress females have spawned and been moved to isolation tanks. My eureka has spawned right after I did a water change and fed him cocktail shrimp, lol. Haven't pulled his girlfriend yet though. Also got Labidochromis Flavigulis male and female to add to our adult female who has been trying to spawn with our white lab. The female we got had a mouth full of eggs and she's in her own tank. Gosh once they start these guys just don't stop, I'm running out of tanks.

Last night I did a water change and pulled out the holding eureka and swapped z-rock males from one tank to another(we swapped them over the weekend and decided we didn't want to cross them since it became apparent one batch has dramatically superior colors) and hour after the better looking z-rock was placed back into the 110 gallon display tank he spawned with one of the girls in there. I'm out of holding tanks... I was watching the spawn and at the end the red empress male intruded, breaking it up and I was wondering if when a fish does that if he will milt into the process to create nasty hybrids. I've noticed my red do this on several other occasions but never in a spawning that lead to the female holding. I thought it would be hard to get my fish to spawn and now I can't stop it, lol. Its quite amazing and I'm really happy things are going so well. I'm sorry for being so behind on photos. I'm buying a house so I'm pretty busy right now. I close in may if all goes according to plan to expect a new DIY project as I construct a new fish room. Thanks MFK for the love.
