I feel the same way.
Do you think if I used 3/4" plywood like you and reversed the front panel so the outside overlapped the inside could I then inset the glass inside that inset? Glass 3/4" also. The glass would be "flush" with the inside walls.
I’m looking to do this on my build. The inside will be lined with 3/4” plywood. On the front a slightly smaller piece of 1” plywood will be placed on top of the 3/4” sheet. This will give me a frame to place my front panel. The gap will be completely siliconed. I will be using 3/4 acrylic for my build

That would certainly work, but I would leave a bit of gap for A. Room for the edges of glass and B. Room to seal the edges with silicone.

UPDATE

I have yet to go pick up the glass (it's been ready for over a month) as I am not quite ready to install it and I dont want $600 worth of glass sitting in my garage. So today I started construction on the stand. I am going with a 4x6 for the long lengths on top with 4x4s as legs. The rest is 2x6 or 2x4. I datoed the 4x4 so the 2x4s can lay in nice and flush. I used Epoxy and construction screws to assemble.

Noticed the Everlast welder in the last pic, which model is it? Was thinking of getting one from home use as at work we use miller’s and Lincoln’s but no way am I spending that kinda cash.

Nice stand by the way :)

Good eye. It's the 256si which is a combo machine (stick, tig, plasma) so far I've only used the stick . The stick runs so sweet, it's like butter compared to some other machines I've used. As far as the tig side, I've never done tig before, so in messing with it, I made a big mess of things. I need to have someone come over and help me dial in the machine and teach me how to do it. I've yet to mess with the plasma either as I havent had a use yet.

UPDATE
Haven't really been making a ton of progress as we have been out camping a bit. Today I skinned the stand and got the tank moved over onto it to check for fit. came out just like I hoped. I will say that the tank and stand are probably 500#. Last night I blew $1100.00 at BRS on the pump and all plumbing I need for the tank. I cant find an overflow box that is the size I want, so I think I will get some acrylic and make it myself. I am picking up the glass on Wednesday, but wont install it until I get the bulkheads drilled which will probably be next weekend. Slowly getting there.

A tank three feet deep...with a weight measured in tons...and it's the 2-inch-pipe diameter that takes your breath away??? :)
