Okay so I picked up some juvie Retic's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I spoke with the guy from api and we both agreed that the meds were safe just not for long term exposure at high doses when they have been stressed this long. The meds definately helped with the fungus and they are both still eating pretty well. I removed all of the meds 18 hours later and went back with salt and heat after I noticed that it was in "retreat". I am sure at this point that the larger female will be just fine the smaller male... not so much. I'm not really seeing much curl, just a little lifting of the disc from the glass near the tail/clasper area which is just a sign of stress (rightfully so). Just been quite the experience with my very first rays and now I feel that in the next few months if I can keep these alive being in the shape they were in when I recieved them I'm sure that purchasing a motoro or two will be in the very near future. I am kicking around the idea of getting a 300 gallon pretty soon and will be wanting to start a ray community... sort of.

Well it has been another 24 hours and still not a whole lot to report. The female continues to get fat and the little guy seems to be giving up a little more each day. The cottony fungus has re-established itself once again on his tail and I dont think putting the female through the stress of medication again is gonna turn out to good. The "fat girl" still has some area's on her disc that are a cause for concern but they havent multiplied or grown in size so I must be doing something right. The only thing I did different today was change 0% of the water in their tank. Honestly I'm up to about as much in meds as I paid for the pair, not to mention prime, salt, etc... Still running a full dose of salt roughly 1.25 lbs. per 100 gal and a healthy dose of pima to keep the fungus at bay.

p.s. matt, we almost have the same set up. I had a small juvie silver aro in this tank until the meds came into play. I had to move him to a "clean tank" during the high salt concentration. Glad to see you guys making some headway with your lil retic's.

Yeah! I think Ashley pointed out your youtube video to me; at first I thought she had posted a vid of our tank, except the big planted tank and bucket were missing! :screwy:

The little guy is on his way out, has started to curl pretty bad.... Man it sucks to watch these guys die.

:(

Sorry its my fault maybe the sand should not have been removed??? :(

you can be on the list for a CB retic too

I wouldnt exactly say it's anyones fault. This website is designed to allow folks such as myself to ascertain information that until now was unavailable to the general public. It's up to the RAY OWNER to take this information and make a decision on whether to follow the advice or not. I personally believe that the removal of the sand has saved my female. I have read it hundreds if not thousands of times that the weak rays just dont make it. As far as the sand is concerned I dont personally miss it, and I dont believe my rays do either. I will at a later time put some sort of substrate when I feel my female is healthy enough to undergo another environment change that signifigant.

I bought these guys from the only LFS in town that would even agree to order them and deep in my mind I knew it was a silly thing to do. At this point I am really just happy that the female is doing as well as she is at the moment, and honestly believe without this site I would have had little to no idea what I was doing and would have lost them both.

I dont know if anyone else is a little aggitated, but personally I feel matt and ashley's thread being closed behind a couple of guys not agreeing to disagree is a little disgruntling. Brings me back to this site is for the consumer to aquire information and it's up to THEM to make a decision in which direction they think is best for their pets. Thanks for your experience guys..

So when are we expecting those CB's miles?:naughty::naughty:

The female is spending a decent amount of time cruising up the side of the tank, is this normal?

i would still do a waterchange every day.... also ur salt should be at about 3 or 4 lbs for 100 gallons.

swimmin up the sides is cool... shes prob gettin comfy...

thanks she kinda hangs out at the bottom on the side too just havent owned any rays before so I've never seen this behavior.

Lil guy expired last night while I was sleeping.
