Okay so I picked up some juvie Retic's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry for your loss :(

We will have to fix you up with some CB rays here soon..

I doubt the sand being removed was the issue though.. Ive done a few big substrate changes with juvie rays and they have had no issues.

Lil guy expired last night while I was sleeping.

I'm so sorry to hear that... Ashley and I have been rootin' for the little guy. I'm glad to hear the girl is doing well, at least. Best of luck keeping her!

Thanks for the support guys. So now onto the health of the lil lady. The spots that can be seen on the first few pix initially thought to be fungus have not shown any improvement, not through meds salt heat or over time. They also have not gotten any worse. They dont seem to be growths of any sort just discoloration? I am thinking maybe heater burn? or is it something else. She still eat's like a pig and seems to be pretty comfortable in her tank nowadays. Any info on this would be deeply appreciated.

Do you have exposed heaters that she could burn herself on? If it IS heater burn and your salt concentration/temp are up where they should be you should have saw some improvement by now I would think.

I have an exposed stealth thats hidden behind the intake tube. I read that some people use stealths and never have any problem with burns. I am guessing that maybe it's bacterial?

What is the salt to water ratio and what is the temp? IF you listened to everyone's advice on this stuff it should have improved it IF it is indeed bacterial..... You even treated with anti bacterial didn't you?

I had cut back on meds and salt seeing as how nothing else had affected it. I am now up to 3 tblsp salt per 5 gallons and the temp is 86. I did treat with bacterial meds (melafix) for a few treatments and it really hasnt gotten anyworse or any better. I added more melafix to the tank because when transfering my aro back in he had an out of water experience and lost a scale. So maybe with it not getting any worse I should just keep an eye on it, and hopefully It's just some sort of injury that just needs time to heal? I did notice that light passes through the site of this whiteness much better than the rest of her disc.

So does this mean you're at 3lb/100 gallons? (According to carton I believe rec. dosage is 1 tbsp/5 and that is for 100 gallons and 1 lb. So if you're using 3 fold you should be at 3lbs/100.) I'de raise to 4lb/100 gallon......

You said you cut back on the salt though since nothing affected it? It's not miracle tonic, it's just salt, you need to get it up to recommended concentration and leave it there....... let it work. I usually leave salt that heavey for a week or 2........

Take my advice with a grain of salt.......LOL I'm no expert. Just telling you the actions I'de take if I was in this situation......

I wouldn't consider Melafix a med........ Isn't Pima the one for bacteria? Either way there are much better, stronger meds out there for bacteria.

You could have ordered triple sulfa and been done dosing it by now if you would have taken the advice back on pg 3.

Quick question, I am wondering with the salt at this high of a level for this long will harm the small (7-8") silver arowana that's in the same tank. Just wondering.
