Ordering New 440/480 any advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like FTD is $1500 more... based on everyone’s feedback I’ll probably go with them, they are gonna give me a larger tank I guess they have an oddball, 8x4x 28” or 550 gallons?

Guess extra 100 gallons makes it a little better!

Ordering tm ?

Is that glass or acrylic?

So, getting those built in over flow boxes,

Question, i’ll Have to do all the plumbing before pushing the tank against the wall ya?

I’m planing on using aquarium silicone on fittings,

How long i wonder? 8 connections I presume?

It’s costing me $290 hr to keep the people in my home to move the tank... just wanna be efficient...

I assume you mean external overflow box. For a external overflow you would setup all you plumbing connections before hand, and install a union on each pipe. Then you can take apart the union and place the tank on the stand. After you can reinstall all your plumbing by reconnecting the unions. You will need to make sure you plan out your layout very well so that your unions are accessible from the very top of the overflow box or just above the bottom of the tank from under the stand, But they need to be within arms reach.

It’s all coming at the same time, tank, stand, and sump...

Gonna see if I can get an LFS vs movers and get them to set it up, or it’s me flailing about while 5 dudes watch....

I may be able to get FTD to set everything up for me? If I just make the connections with silicone and dangle the semi rigid tubing into the stand, push the tank back and I can do the connections in the stand once it’s in place....

It’s prolly not that hard?

Eeh....

I can see why folks pay to have these things done....

Its definitely gonna require some tinkering and time to set up once you get it in the door, a couple days or even a week maybe. I would get your help to put it about where you want it, onto the stand, but still leave some room in back to move around and work, then send them on your way. Then when its all set up maybe get one more person to help slide it into place.

i think setting it up is half the fun i love to tinker with the stuff and get it just right. my tank will be hear in about 6 weeks and you could not pay me to have someone else set it up lol. i am so excited about setting it up and making it look good that i have already put 2 days PTO in at my job so i can just stay home and play lol. i am in the same boat as you i have to rent a forklift to get the tank in the house and 3 guys to move it and i and just going to have them get it close and then i will plum the tank push it in to position should not be to bad with 2 people and then add sand rock and water.
