Nice!

Saltwater! I’m not ready to take on that expense yet, may give it a go in a small tank once I get this thing sorted...

I too enjoy it, I just over think over plan most things....

I’m assuming I can make most of the connections from the overflow boxes easily then do the below plumbing later...

I’ve not purchased all the other bits, substrate ( active flora) fluval lighting, and wood.... but should be nice when I’m done...

Any tips on what to place below stand?

I’ve been using pad for vinyl/hardwood flooring...

Tj203 , 6 weeks who did you order from?

ACRYLIC CREATIONS OUT OF PA.

its not a saltwater going to do a cichlid tank. i know i ordered a lot of unions so i can take the pluming off when needed. i found these lights they look nice and are very bright and also have an app so i can control the colors. all for $100 a light i spent over $400 on a maxspec ethereal and this dose everything that light did as far as the app and timer for a lot less. see link. for under the stand i am just putting plywood to try and spread the weight out better and i dont want to damage my hardwood floors. also i found a website for PVC fittings that seams cheap it is called supply house. i put that link too, it was the cheapest i could find true union ball valves. i have just about everything to set the tank up, just waiting on my steel i beams for the floor support, an auto top off mortar to glue the rock together and i need to figure out a way to hang my lights with out putting a lot of holes in my ceiling. thinking of just using a 2x4 and support it from both ends with a cable and eye screw and mounting the lights to that but we will see.

Looks like found local supplier - looking at 8’x4’x30” should be good, got help on this side other than randoms from CL or labor ready to move it in/set it up.

every one raves about bean, local guy said harmonious or something used for more reef set ups?

I did tell him I’d like 10x turn over, he thought was maybe high...
Getting closer!

I have read that 10x turnover rate applies to HOB filters and mechanical filtration. Sump filtration usually has less of a turnover rate and is usually less than a closed loop canister system. To have a 10x turnover rate on a 500 gallon tank would require 5,000 gallons of water moved each hour. So even if you had zero head, the pump would be pumping at 5,000 GPH. You would need a MASSIVE sump tank to accommodate that much water passing through or you run the risk of pumping the sump dry. If you really have your heart set on 10X turnover rate, consider a closed loop system with a massive pump in addition to your sump. One Reeflo Hammerhead/Barracuda Gold pump in a closed loop system will get you close to a 10x turnover rate.

10X turnover rate will give you quite a current. We've got that with our mechanical filtration on our 300 gallon tank. The current is really strong, and I can't hold my hand still near the return nozzle. Refilling the tank you can see how strong the current is:

I got the jebao 18,000 L DC pump so I can turn it up and down I plan on running it around 3000 GPH in my tank is 480 gallon. My sump is an 80 gallon frag tank. But that’s why I got the adjustable pump so I could turn it up or down. Amazon has one that they’re calling used but which is new it in a damaged box for 150 bucks not bad

The problem is the overly ambitious 10x turnover rate. I'm going to use a ReeFlo Barracuda Gold pump (4600 GPH) to return the water from my sump to the main tank. No danger of pumping the sump dry, but even at 4000+ GPH the turn over rate will be a little over 2x. Knowing how powerful my Hammerhead pump is, I would be afraid to plumb a big pump into an open system with a small sump tank...but that's just me. My sump tank is 405 gallons so no fear of burning up a pump that was running dry.

That’s why I got an adjustable one so I can try different flow rates and see what my fish like and what my Tank likes

Ok, I was just going off info I’ve read, 5x’s turnover per hour fresh - 10x’s for salt? I thought I read somewhere, I’ve been looking at 6’x18x18 sump so 100 gallons ish

I want to do whatever’s too much and dial it back a little from there, clean water is good!

tank will be 600g,

4800gph via two 2400 pumps or too much?
