Other beginner rays beside motoros?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm still getting rays, Im just saying, once I'm moved out I'm building a large indoor ray pond.

Im getting a job at my LFS this summer and will use that money to get the tank and everything, and ofcourse to buy the rays. I will be keeping this job once the school year starts again and I'm sure it will be enough to support the rays.

their pretty afforable dont hurt too much if you are unsuccessful

Yeah, they sell for pretty good prices, but I think im going to try Yepezi's or Hystrix, most likely Yepezi as they more common, but if I find some hystrix I'll get them.

Plus, Motoros need a pretty big tank compared to a yepezi or hystrix.

otorongo

those are fairly easy i have heard
:D

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. They grow bigger than motoros. Although you do have a point, they are quite easy to keep and get on food from what i've heard.

Yepezi or hystrix are good idea. i would go for the Yepezi, they are quite cheap and very strong feeders.

In the U.K we are very lucky, we have Scobina and Hystrix in our LFS's because they ship them in from Germany. They are also as expensive as motoro here too.:D

exactly...., otorongo get big......, but man are they very active and hungry all the time....., mine is like a animal......, he just pushes my motoro around when it comes to feeding

I am really loving the personality of my otorongo....., would defiently buy another...

oh yah....., and it must be nice to be over in the UK getting all of those nice captive bred rays at a cheeper price.....

Once of these days, Im just going to pack up and come to the UK! It must be very awesome to have such rays at your LFS!

I'll probably end up with Yepezi as they do seem quite a bit more common then Hystrix, although I'm still going to look for hystrix and if I find any I MIGHT pick them up.

I want to get an otorongo one day, but Its not going to be for a few years, I'd probably just build a huge circle indoor pond with one otorongo and a few other rays in there, I think it would be crazy but pretty exspensive!

But anyways, I will more then likely get a pair of yepezi.

Oh, I have another question, If the rays ever decide to breed, would it be best to remove the pups asap? I just dont want the aro snacking on them, and I will be working at an LFS soon and I could probably keep them in one of the large quarantine tanks in the back, There is also a heated display pond that has koi in it, and I was thinking of putting the pups in one of the big quarantine tank and growing them out then maybe putting them in the display pond?

Good idea, get one yepezi for a month or so, if you think you are comfortable with that get another. When you get pups they can be kept with the parents for a few days if you don't have any other fish that could injure them. But i prefer putting them into a separate tank, as you can feed them easily.
