You guys act like Petsmart should have genius employees working for $7 an hour.
LOL .There used to be a few independant stores nearby that I could go to but they have shut down and Petsmart is minutes away.If I really need something and dont feel like an almost hour long drive,I'll stop in.The only fish I am interested in are the feeders, but then, all of their fish are feeders to my fish. They do have good looking fake driftwood and rock formations though.

It really depends on the store. But I think Petland discounts is the worst!!!. I had to bend down to get some gravel under the fish tanks, and I saw 10 dead dried up fish and covered with dust. I refuse to shop there.

For the most part i dont like to get fish from petsmart or petco. Most of the time every fish has ick and or parisites. i have gotten fish from both places and ended up spending a fortune to heel the fish. everytime i try to give them a chance it aways comes back and bites me...lol

i've never bought a sick fish from petsmart. in fact usually their fish are healthy, although as of late the only thing i've bought is clown loaches when they have unique markings.

as far as knowledgeable employees and sick fish it happens everywhere. in terms of quality of fish a lot of lfs have the same suppliers as the chain stores they just order more unique fish from them.

yeah sadly all of the Ma and Pa LFS in my town have disappeared within the last couple years (which im sure this is the case in many medium sized towns/ small cities). As of now the best choice in town is a Petsmart and they actually take pretty dang good care of all their tanks....ive never had a sick fish from them and they have a few very knowledgeable employees that are always nicely telling people their tanks are too small or overstocked(just like every knowledgeable fishkeeper online it seems like haha). As for the two petcos in town....ive bought nothing from them other than my first two africans and saved a 2 inch turqoise jewel from their adult blood parrot tank once. luckily i have a very great LFS (actually a couple) about an hour away in portland. i would have to say it depends on each individual store

I think its fine as long as youre not looking for anything rare or serious advice on size.

I actually find the fish from PetsMart to be pretty healthy. Certainly much healthier than fish from Wal-Mart.

I don't buy fish from PetsMart for a couple of reasons. First, if PetsMart can get it, lots of LFS in my area can / do stock it already (and probably for the same price or less). I prefer to support a good LFS than a chain.

Second, they simply don't stock many fish that I want.

Finally, there isn't always enough staff or enough knowledgable staff to provide good service at PetsMart.

Wherever that you buy fish, it's important to QUARANTINE. I know everyone doesn't have 50 tanks...but an extra tank is all you need.

I would never purchase fish from petsmart under any circumstance
I worked there for long enough to see how badly they treat their fish

My local petsmart is the best place to get fish in the area. The girl who runs it really knows her stuff. But if I go and she is not there, I don't ask questions lol.

She keeps the tanks in AMAZING order though, I have never seen a sick or dead fish there ever.

i saw some barred midas wanna bees the other day
