The first pic shown is my HBRTG, can see it’s more golden. The second pic was my RTG, less golden and less shine but darker coloured fins.
As I have read somewhere, HBRTG is more related and closer genetics to XB golden arowanas, hence more yellow.
wow beautiful fishes hope mine can grow to be like yours haha. Does food play a big role in the coloration and shine or is it all genetics? and since you have both do you feed and care for both in a similar way to result in the fishes in the picture? Do you tan your fish (natural/ tanning light)? Your RTG is beautiful but the HBRTG looks like a completely different fish, damn it really does look like an XB golden arowana. I expected the difference to be much smaller.

Correction: HBRTG aren’t actually just related to crossback golden arowanas, I just found HBRTG arowanas are crossbreeds between golden crossback arowana and RTG arowana LOL
Well that explains a lot lol. I thought its something related to genetics like how superreds have diffrent shades of red.

Im new as well but according to my research and selecting a fish, your fish certainly is not a green or banjar as the colorations are different. RTG and HBRTG have a price difference, just go around other LFS and check prices and see what they are offering, you may get a basic idea of what fish you have got. Nevertheless your fish is beautiful!! Here is my Super Red which I got a few days back,

Yes that’s why buying super reds when they’re young can be a gamble. They can either turn out to have no colouring or shadings of red, or turn out amazing and have full scale red shine. That’s why young red arowanas cost $700-$800 ( in Singapore, my country) while full scale shine adult arowanas can cost $1600-$4500

I took a risk with my fish as well, I stay in Dubai, where asian aros are very rare to find or you have to pay over the top to order one. I have a friend who has 3 and he took me to his store and luckily there were 3 reds in the store 2 were bigger around 10 inchs from which 1 was sold. I looked at the other 2 and this 5 inch one looked promising and I got the certificate as well. I was worried for a bit as I did not trust the certificate as I coudln't find the farm online. My friend help me track down a number for the farm and I had a word with the owner and he said it was legit. He asked me to scan the Tag number here in Dubai, so I would be stress free. It has been a few sleepless nights with him as I messed up. But he has recovered and loves coming to the front of the tank to greet me!!( i know its more like feed me hahaa.... but still) In the end of the day I think I picked an amazing fish with a lovely personality.

Exactly!! Here in Dubai if the scales are red you are paying a miniumum of 10000 AED or nearly 4000 USD. This is not even full red just the scales have got 1mm of red. Reds need a lot of tanning and grooming compared to golds, once my fish is settled in his new tank and reaches 10 inches I'll start soft tanning!! and will keep the my fellow monster keepers updated!!

Haha I guess in Asia where I am (Singapore) every type of fish is cheaper by half. Hope ur arowana turns out beautiful ?

Not sure if food plays a big role, but I think it does help. I feed my arowanas the same way, market prawns and hikari floating carnivore pellets. market prawns contain carotene which if I’m not wrong helps with the colouration of the fish.Sometimes I feed tiger barb feeder fish, but i usually quarantine the tiger barbs in a separate tank for at least 2-3 weeks.
i just use a normal white light for my tank. I’m terms of Asian arowanas, RTGs, HBRTGs, banjar reds, green arowanas do not require any tanning. Only XB golden arowanas, super red arowanas or blue base arowanas require tanning.
I guess each individual arowana boils down to its genetics mostly in terms of scale shine and colours

In my country Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia RTG and HBRTG arowanas are around USD 70-80 for 15-18cm fish. Almost no diffrence in price between the two types of arowana at this size. The funny thing is every LFS when asked if their RTG is a HB assured me that their fish is a HBRTG with high potential. Makes me doubt if they can even tell. On the other hand the owner of the LFS I bought my arowana from told me he dosen't know if it's HB but he believes it has potential. Well I appreciate his honesty and to be fair to my untrained eyes his RTG did look the best and most promising. Your super red look awesome, is that a shortbody/ semi-shortbody arowana cause it looks unique compared to the normal ones?
p.s. example of an RTG form another store that in my opinion doesen't look as good (same price)small arowana.jpeg

I plan to feed my arowana Hikari carnisticks and dried red maggots that contain carotene. Don't know if dried red maggots that contain carotene is any good, never seen any discussion about it in these forums but was recommended by a fishkeeper friend that mainly keeps super reds and channa. Glad to know RTG dosen't require tanning cause that's a whole other thing I'm ready for it yet.
