Please help... panicking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh and as far as the fish everyone is still alive and acting completely fine. The gourami and angel still seem to be doing the breathing thing though. And one of the platys had a half brown half whiteish/clearish poop hanging out. Still no other signs of parasites or bacterial disease. And oddly nobody hangs out around the surface as is typical with nitrite issues. They just chill like normal.

Hey guys just wanted to let everyone know if anyone ever comes across this thread, after 48 hours using the Seachem Stability, my nitrites dropped down to 0 and ammonia was down to less than .25. Fish's breathing returned to normal. Seachem Stability did the job and saved my fish. Thanks for all your help.

good to hear :)

So was the problem the cycle died?

Or what cause everything to go out of wack?

I honestly have no idea. Never could nail down the source of the nitrite spike. Since I had been using test strips previously that were giving me incorrect readings it is possible that my tank was simply in the last phase of cycling and adding in the new fish spiked the nitrite. But honestly, couldn't ever figure out exactly why.

If anyone ever comes across this I did end up discovering why my nitrites shot through the roof. Our tap water comes out of the faucet at over 5.0 ppm nitrites. No amount of water conditioner can bring that down to a safe level. That was the issue.

Hello; Sorry to hear you have bad water. Have you made a plan to deal with it yet?

I currently started another thread trying to figure that out. I have no idea what I'm going to do long term.

Hey triple F, thanks for the help. I know it's a lot to to read through but I already added salt to the aquarium and raised the heat for a couple of days. Also added a fluval air pump for an 80 gal and a very powerful bubbler. I do believe the poo issue was from the stress of the nitrite poisoning as well. Because there are still 0 other signs of parasites. Glad to hear another confirmation on the stability. Will post my progress later tonight.

Not sure what a bio-scrubber is?
A bio scrubber is helps with nitrites from crud in the rocks, fluval makes it. But it can cause oxygen to drop a bit, but it sure helps the nitrites.

Well found out brudder is definetly a breeding male, he's papa to apx 4 dozen baby's, don't know if rudder is male or female I think he just goes for the ride, lol
