Since most of us dislike WalMart

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK got ya, yeah he would have been cought. So yes we agree they did the right thing given the situation they were faced with.

Why bash on Walmart cause of this? Any other company or business would have done the same to their employees if they had these policies in effect (which most do).

So I'm supposed to pay 2x as much for my toilet paper because 4 guys lost their jobs? :duh:

New question:
what would have happened if they let the gunman go and he finds there are cops?
Would the gunman give up.....probably not. He would have taken some customers then, at least my guess.

I look at spending money as voting. Spend your money at the stores you want to stick around. There are however the people that would rather save the buck or two and support chains. That's fine since we need those people as well to keep the chains in business ;)

 That's a good line but there already seemed to be a good number of people here who did not like the company before this incident took place. It happened at WalMart so it just fueled their fire.

that would be the point of this thread. Those that dislike walmart will dislike it more, those that love walmart no matter what, will still like it.

Just passing on info. Do as you like with it

Plus MFK is always a good place for debates. When is there ever a thread that has no debating in it?

So, they DIDN'T do the right thing. I watched the interview they did on CNN yesterday. Catching shoplifters is their job, restraining them physically is not. And when someone brandishes a gun, you put the whole store at risk by attempting to disarm him. What if during the struggle, someone outside is shot? Walmart is right for firing them. They put the lives of everyone in the store in danger by not allowing him to flee. That is a job for the police, not Walmart shoplifter detailees. Who would be responsible if someone gets shot? W A L M A R T.

Some things that don't appear in the story here, but they explained in their interview:
The man was trying to leave the store and they brought him back to the room. They held him there after he tried to leave. At that point, he reached into his pants and they said they thought it was drugs. He pulled out a handgun and cocked it. They should NOT have held that person against their will. It is not acceptable for average joes to restrain someone. That is not their job. Remember, he brandished AFTER they touched him.

Oh, and don't think I'm ok with the criminal. I'm not taking his side. I'm saying it's dumb to restrain someone when it's outside of the boundaries of their job.

Thoughts?

I don't love Walmart, it's just convenient for daily household items. They got everything I need at a good price. If I want nicer quality things, I'll go elsewhere. I always put it this way..

Where else can you buy feeder goldfish, ammo, tires, motor oil, toilet paper, trash bags, a hammer, Krylon Fusion spray paint, propane, a pillow, batteries, potted plant, and personal lube, all in one stop???? :D

Good points Clay.I have not yet gotten around to reading the full story and account of what happened but as soon as I heard about it I knew tha firing was a matter of policy...I used to work in retail years ago(the Sports Authority)and there were so many policies there that I don't know how someone could remember all of them and they are nowhere near as big as Walmart.

There are some people left in this world that are MEN with firm wrists. If someone had a gun in my back, you better believe I would expect the other three people that were standing there to bounce his head off the ground. If they didn't, and I lived through it, they would all be receiving dual shiners.
