Since most of us dislike WalMart

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't shop at Walmart, i have darkened their doorstep ZERO times in the last 12 years. i will admit to looking in the pet department once at dog crates. but since our big grocery strike here in CA i will not step foot in their store. it is walmart and stores like them that are giving away our jobs and ruining our economy.

Couldn't agree more. Don't like Wal-Mart...don't shop there. Period.

The idea that there are no other stores than Wal-Mart that are both affordable and stock a variety of items...is laughable.

Some are even able to stay on the right side of the law with regard to treating their employees.

New question:
I look at spending money as voting. Spend your money at the stores you want to stick around. ;)

There are some people left in this world that are MEN with firm wrists. If someone had a gun in my back, you better believe I would expect the other three people that were standing there to bounce his head off the ground. If they didn't, and I lived through it, they would all be receiving dual shiners.

so if i was with you and someone pulls a gun on you and i decided not to engage, and you lived thru it, I deserve a punch in the face?

i got a mortgage, 3 car payments and 5 mouths to feed, i absolutely get where you are coming from but, c'mon man, there's more at risk than just my own life by helping. i really don't know what i would do in that situation. i may act at the spur of the moment or i may think about my family and what else may suffer for my actions and choose to not do anything that may prevent a bullet from entering my body

So, they DIDN'T do the right thing. I watched the interview they did on CNN yesterday. Catching shoplifters is their job, restraining them physically is not. And when someone brandishes a gun, you put the whole store at risk by attempting to disarm him. What if during the struggle, someone outside is shot? Walmart is right for firing them. They put the lives of everyone in the store in danger by not allowing him to flee. That is a job for the police, not Walmart shoplifter detailees. Who would be responsible if someone gets shot? W A L M A R T.

Some things that don't appear in the story here, but they explained in their interview:
The man was trying to leave the store and they brought him back to the room. They held him there after he tried to leave. At that point, he reached into his pants and they said they thought it was drugs. He pulled out a handgun and cocked it. They should NOT have held that person against their will. It is not acceptable for average joes to restrain someone. That is not their job. Remember, he brandished AFTER they touched him.

Oh, and don't think I'm ok with the criminal. I'm not taking his side. I'm saying it's dumb to restrain someone when it's outside of the boundaries of their job.

Thoughts?

not taking the criminal's side either, but this makes sense to me if all the facts stated are true

I believe I said 2 punches.:D But honestly, it would take a hopelessly selfish person to stand there and watch and do nothing. All those things you mentioned won't mean anything once he shoots me and turns to you. He was out numbered four to one and they were in a small room. If he shot the one guy, would you want to live the rest of your life knowing that you stood there and did nothing? Like Phil Collins says...

I think this is one of those classic 'armchair quarterback' situations. We all like to sit here and point out what they did wrong, what they should have done, and what you would have done in that situation.

It's all a bunch of BS. Until you're in situation like that, you can't even comment on how you would have reacted. It's a little different when we're behind a computer screen, rather than being right there at the very instant, with your life on the line.

Ever hear of fight or flight? When put into a situation where you think you're going to die, you fight the will to live is very strong. I"m not going to tell stories here, but suffice it to say you will react in ways that would surprize you. These people did what they did and Wal-Mart at that moment had nothing to to do with it. The "not in my job discription" works if sombody tells you to clean the tolet, not when a gun is pointed at you. I can't or will not say the things I've seen and done but believe me it's not as simple as some posters make it seem. Get a gun pointed at you with a fraction of a second to react and then come tell me what you did, because if you can tell me, you did the right thing.

I'm not going to push the issue any farther, but lets just say I haven't left the house unarmed in the last 15 years or so. Even when I go to work. I am fairly certain I know how I would react.

do you believe everyone is like you? you should know by now that not everyone reacts the same way, doesn't make them selfish, just different for various reasons. i know people who talk a big game but as soon as a fight breaks out, they turn into a gentlemen or simply run away. in a perfect world we'd all be lil soldiers ready to jump into action but let's face it, we aren't.
