One thing I've heard of is changing brands of food! Algae basically feeds off phosphate and nitrate. And some, particularly cheaper foods haves tons of phosphate in them. I've spoken to heaps of people with the same issue and after a couple of weeks of the same water change routine just different food and the issue has completely gone. Worth a try.

The fact that water changes aren't doing anything, indicates to me that it's likely that it could be this, as you remove a volume of phosphate in a water change but feed it straight back in with food!

ok soo i just put in the tetra algea clear at like 12:30. how long till i see results? ill redose if need in 3 days i guess.

I saw results within just a few hours, but your algae bloom is definitely worse than mine was.

I would say give it 24 hours...I doubt you will need to add anymore.

Be prepared to clean out your mechanical filter media...you are going to have a ton of dead algae in your filter.

fish look good, but I would do a 70% water change like 3 times this week.

horrible idea... unless you know the parameters of your current tank and the base parameters of your WC water... prime could be needed or you would shock your tank into recycling all over again.... especially 3 times a week. i'm surprised only 4 fish died and not all of them.

you never want to jump straight into a huge water change like that... i would do 10-20% WC once a week, until you figure out your proper parameters...then start doing 25% water changes weekly... and slowly progress until you find out the routine and percentage you need to do to maintain a healthy environment for the fish...not shock them to death

That's bad if that was my tank I'd put the fish in a holding container and empty the tank and filter and clean every thing and start over its the cheapest cure
