When I lived in Guam I did a lot of saltwater spearfishing with a sling spear. Doing it at night while trying to keep thoughts of huge sharks swimming up from the dark depths out of your mind made it about as sporty as it gets.

Saltwater definitely has its differences...but personally I love it. I also love sharks...its almost too bad you dont see more of them. I consider seeing a shark to be lucky. I have only been robbed of fish once or twice though.

Nice thread, ill be purchasing a PSE re curve for the sake of bowfishing, so when the warmer months rock back around ill be smashing some euro carp, im a noob to the concept so any info or links would be appreciated, sorry for derailing.

Love my pse for regular bowhunting...I assume that there bowfishing stuff would be top of the line as well. Thanks for love on the thread.

you ever tried ice diving?

Yes, but just freediving...no spearing.

not to derail but we got this creek by my cottage in PA, its a real nice head water stream with tons of trout but lately the carp have begun to move in and were seeing fewer and fewer trout. well 4th of july 2 years ago we were out roasting hotdogs on the campfir with some of the two prong metal sticks. One of the youngins hollered that there was a huge carp in the middle of the creek and being as we didnt like em i got up, pulled the hot dog off the spit(since it wasnt real hot yet) and flung the spit at the carp figuring id scare it away. needless to say one prong went right through the eye the other went right behind the gills, carp didnt move at all as the "spear" had gon through and lodged in a piece of driftwood. ..... we had carp on the fire that night

thats cool you can pm me or something like that with any questions you have...

@tscharf

your story reminded me of the biggest carp i shot, from this creek, witch is the smallest creek i go to...

the creek is 3' across and 2' deep...there is 10' of cattails with maybe 1' of water in them max across from me...i am sitting there waiting for some carp to swim past when a big female comes out of the cattails to me...i watch her come to my feet and i shoot...she gets pinned to the ground and spins for like 10mins...i couldn't touch her water and mud were going everywere wish i had this on film...finally she stops thrashing and i get her out and put a scale on her...she was 18.75lbs also a kid from the local school watched me shoot her and took pics...he then got a pic of me holding the fish, all for the school newspaper...i told him to give me a copy of the pics and paper, but he was never seen from again...

The illusive one that got away lol.

nice joe man, thats awesome

Im in an online diving hall of fame for the one pictured in some of the earlier threads...we figure that one was pushing 30#...I got into my HS newspaper for just the sport in general...got a lot of people around. Wisconsin may not sound like a spearfishing hot bed, but a lot of people in the central stevens point area do it...so its a good thing we have going...And the over harvest point is good too, its all about using spearfishing for what its good for, increadibly selective harvest.
