Wanting to get in shape for the summer!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Diet as well as exercise is really important. If I'm not able to get to the gym, I make sure that I at least eat healthy. I try to stick to organic foods. They cost more but in the long run, they pay off. All the hormones in a lot of foods will cause problems later on in life. Stay younger longer with a healthy diet. I'd recommend to replace desserts with fresh fruit. Cut out all fast foods. Eat less red meat. Animal fat is not necessary. The strongest animals in the jungle dont even eat meat. (Gorilla, elephants, rhino) Nuts and beans are packed with protein that you need. Also drinking half your body weight in ounces of water a day is recommended. If you weigh 100 lbs, then you should consume 50 ounces of water daily. You will notice that you wont need as much sleep to feel rested. You will not be as sluggish through the day. Your energy levels and consiousness will improve greatly and you hair and skin will start to look healthier. Discipline is key. Your body will thank you. Good luck!!!

very good advice

I cut out all meat except fish and stopped eating dairy. Basically a vegan diet with seafood allowed. I also practice ashtanga yoga as much as possible. Its been about two years since I started this. I lost 40 pounds immediately then stabilized. I feel amazing and haven't been sick once. I think if I could cut beer out of my diet I'd be totally ripped, that's just not gonna happen though.

Actually a couple of beers are healthy.........lots of B vitamins in the malt..:D

The diet thing is a temporary fix. Concentrate on the Physical activities. A five mile run daily will boost your metabolism and you can eat whatever you want;)

Once your metabolism slowwswwws down, game over! You will get progressively fat...lol

I was overweight before I joined the military. The U.S. army fixed that and paid me to do it. Even lost a couple of vertical inches from jumping out of airplanes..

Every now an then i have to counsel Marines about their weight getting out of control. The formula is simple - burn more calories than you take in. dont starve yourself though, it kicks your body into a self preservation mode that will make it generate more fat when you do eat. you can accomplish alot with little change.
1) cut out the soda, candy chips and other junk food
2) smaller portions - even just slightly smaller
3) increase exercise
That alone will work relatively quickly depending on how much you exercise

For long term though you need to make it a lifestyle. and remember, cardio burns calories but strength training builds muscle mass which increases the amount of calories you burn even at rest. both are essential to a healthy/effective fitness routine.
As far as what foods youre eating, I dont believe thats all that important as long as youre eating foods that provide nutrition. Once you meet your goals and are fit the occasional candy bar or ice cream is not going to hurt you.
Diets are bad short term plans, its all about lifestyle.

Listen to the Marine... lol he was taught by a corpsman. I agree with all the info he said.
