Oh sorry to hear about Salvini as by you one of few places they are found. I suspected they would get hit bad .
By here its even natives are dead mostly bull heads, small gars .

I only see mosquito fish in canal and few mayans but for most part barren.

I went to my one place I loved to fish. Where I caught the walking catfish. Every single exotic is gone dead. Place smells horrible. Natives LMB, Gar, panfish all doing well. Pbass and oscar and mayan and talapia dead galore. if they made tehre way down to the griffin road canal they might have a chance. If some made it this will be the canal they return to later. Plecos of all sizes dead. Its sad because the reason I fish is to see what exotics I can catch...

Not many walleyes and pike down in Florida, pretty bad comparison.
your thinking u.p. we got some of thos here but not alot. We have more Bass, sunfish, darters and lots of little tiny warm water species that do just fine. I am tired of hearing all this complaining about non natives dieing. Its a good thing this cold snap happened, and I hope more are to come and bring things back to how they should be. ;)

The non natives are harmless I imagine everyone who fishes HERE in S.Florida would agree or most .

We can agree to disagree . I used to think same thing as you till moved here and started fishing ,speaking to older residents of Florida who have fished for decades.

Some say if anything bigger gar and LMB.

If cichlids took a big hit than PB will starve or now take a real bad toll on natives and PB are introduced by state and big part of Miami fishing industry .
Cichlids are part of S.Florida have been here for decades if not some longer.

Other than snakehead and Pirahna the state see's that and doesnt actually care though not PC to say it . I suspect they realize they are harmless .

They will care if they are gone as now the PB fishing industry/revenue is finished.

Some club members have colected Myans, Salvini, Jewels, and peacock eels after the cold snap. There may have been massive die off, but non-natives are not completely gone.

I am going this Sat now that days are in 80s by Glades to see what I catch.

We will see big reduction in LMB and other big native fish. I would think those big mayan fry swarms feed plenty of them.

I dont think I have ever seen Snook as not sure which is Snook and which is Tarpon.

I have seen those large fish that "breach" bit like dolphins by big canals not sure if snook or tarpon .

Snook are big fishing revenue for Florida, draw in fishing tourist?

I emailed FWC (4th email in 2 yrs-falls on deaf ears)[/QUOTE]

They dont care about freshwater, i called their fish kill hotline to mention the tilapia, mayan, bullhead, and other fish I noticed dead and they asked if I saw any dead snook and when i replied no they said, "have a good day". Careless a-holes. sometimes I'm all for FWC other times i can't stand them.

That is a tarpon you are seeing at the surface. Snook are a major economy on their own, closing the snook season for multiple years will have a huge impact on the locals.

But we got no snook in Michigan............it get's cold there:screwy:
