Ok, to clear it up. The actual real swimming fish are being sold as "Red Lion Hybrid Cichlids", as it says in the upper right corner.

The photo is of Jeff Rapp's male A. lyonsi. And it says "Looks something like this" covering the A. lyonsi scientific name and the copyright of Jeff Rapps.

The fish being sold are not lyonsi. They're hybrids. And I don't know why they say they're from Texas and Mexico, as the only cichlid native to Texas is H. cyano, and hybrids aren't native to anywhere.

I just found it in bad taste that the fish store took a photo of a very nice rare cichlid owned by Jeff Rapps, and slapped it on one of their hybrid tanks to help them sell.

Though there is the small chance that they are in fact lyonsi, but any store that had the real lyonsi would know them as such, correct?

Correct... The biggest issue I see is that it htink formt he looks of those fish.. It will be extremely hard to tel even as adults, as to if they were not actual Lyonsi :( Fi it says hybrid... I just believe it is Hybrid.

I agree 100%

Quite frankly I have no idea why you're all arguing over this.

The guy is using a picture from Rapp's site, lyonsi are a fairly rare fish in the hobby and as a result a lot of LFS owners don't know jack about them.

You won't figure out if they're true lyonsi or if they're hybrids without speaking to the guy who bought them for the store...

Everyone on here who is trying to prove one thing or another is making a complete idiot out of themselves.

Have you ever seen a Lyonsi that size or a real one for that matter? How big are yours?

Have you ever seen a lyonsi aside from on the internet genius? My only lyonsi I kept is currently 7" TL but I've never seen one over 9" and all of the ones I've ever seen aside from the rapps photo looked just like mine.

here is mine

Rapp's photo is of a male in breeding dress...some one recently posted a pair in breeding dress on here that they have.

They get a lot more color in them when they're horned up.
