yet another nurse shark post

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wasn't going to throw my two cents into the mix, but I do have a Nurse Shark. I have had her for about 2 years. She just moved into a 400gal. before that she was in a 200gal. I will agree its a shark you have to keep up with growth. I say I spend over 100.00 a month just to feed her and the other Sharks I have. I'm not saying its a bad thing to sell but its something to research. Plus everytime you wanna get a opinion on or about a Nurse shark you get the heat of "WTF you can house that" Or "Thats so wrong". I'd actually like to know how many of the ones who post about the Nurse shark actually ever owned one, or was it just in a book. So to say a Nurse Shark will out grow a tank as fast as you say I would have to say yes and no. I had mine in 200gal for alittle over a Year and she moved to the 400gal just last month. Thats all I got. If you do want to sell them I'd take another been looking for a Male.

I've kept adult nurse sharks (Atlantic nurses) with about 3-4 lbs each feed, feeding 4 days a week.

That could actually be affordable, especially if you lived near asian markets.
Housing it however...:nilly:

There is no need to pump Nurse sharks into the pet trade. Anyone with a tank big enough will be able to get their own if they want one. Most people who play at that level aren't looking for nurse sharks anyway.

i agree, first rule, dont buy a fish you cant house. i doubt there will be anyone on this forum that can house a 5ft shark let alone the general public.

find someone that can house it and never buy fish that shouldn't be in an aquarium

I'd say around 24 to 26 inches. when I got her she was about 9 to 10 inches. Not saying its as bad as selling the Bull Shark that I seen on Aquabid.

That bull shark has been on there for months now. What are your plans for her once he out grows the 400 gallon?

Going bigger. The wife and I are looking at a 700 plus Cube Aquarium. Thats one of my main points that I will agree is that most people do buy these sharks and don't realize that the do get bigger reguardless of the size of the tank. Thats the key thing. We have a Electronic store in CA called FRY's they have a 5ft Nurse in there display tank that is a Cylinder. I'm not saying that most people who look for sharks realize that the Nurse will get big. However there are a few that have the funds and can get tanks that could house a Nurse. I would say its to the LFS to inform before selling. I know in Cali. most LFS its special order. even the Whole sellers here say the same thing.
