hello, I have a p.senegalus for 3 years now. And yesterday he started doing what I thought was crocodileturning. But today he did it again for no reason at all and after that he stayed on the bottom turned the wrong way for I think 20seconds.(his belly up) And now he is laying weird in the tank, he is kind of laying on his side with his head looking up and I have never seen him laying like this on his sides. What do u guys think?

Take a picture so everyone can see, when was the last time it ate? What do you feed him? If his floating belly up and cant stay straight it might be bloating. Hows is the temp in the water?

Its breathing hard, look like its truma.

The last time he ate was yesterday. I fed them frozen fish. I gave my gibbeps cucumber for the first time yesterday, any change he ate cucumber? The temperature is pretty cold right now (22) but the other polypterus don't seem to mind it. I just put him in a smaller tank floating in the tank so he can breath easier if he needs to. I looked for parasites but I have not found anything like worms

what is truma?

The moment I caught him he seemed to puke out some air bubbles

Would transfer to another tank for quarantine. Lower the water level and add some salt at a 1tsp per gallon. Add some triple sulfa if available. Had similar and believe it ruptured it’s swim bladder or infection of the swim bladder. Hope for the best.

what type of salt is recommended?
and how long does he need to stay in that tank?

Any salt. Prefer a pickling salt as it’s not supplemented with other stuff. But if not available then table salt will do.
