ive changed the stock in my 75 from angels/gouramis to cichlids now. I've gone withe one jd roughly 2 inches, one firemouth roughly 2 inches, and one convict about an inch, and planning to add some dither fish. Is there any other cichlid that i can keep? I would also like suggestions on what kind of catfish to keep. for catfish i was thinking either one pictus catfish or one raphael as according to my research those guys can hold their own against large cichlids. also, is there any pleco that wont put a huge burden on my filter (aquaclear 110, planning on adding another filter once these fish are larger and creating more waste)
so to sum it up

1. more cichlids?
2. dithers?
3. catfish?
4. pleco?IMG_9713.JPGIMG_9714.JPG IMG_9716.JPG IMG_9728.JPG IMG_9727.JPG IMG_9726.JPG IMG_9725.JPG IMG_9719.JPG IMG_9718.JPG

Might be a bit risky, but you could potentially grow out an acara as well; however you'd probably have to re-home some as they got bigger and aggression increases; it would however let you determine which ones you'd like to keep from a varied selection

Thank, will look into that.

Your cichlid stock is probably just right for when they're full grown. Dither can fill the space that is "empty" right now that the cichlids are smaller.

For cichlids I would stick with the cichlids you have and hope they get along. The JD and convict look likes males and hope the firemouth is a male as well. If one does turn out to be female then you will have to worry about pairing up. I would get a raphel catfish. Pictus cats do better groups, and I don't think you have space to do s group. Then maybe a bushy nose pleco, but I'm sure there are other plecos that will work.

You'll eventually be pretty stocked. I really like my tiger barbs are dithers though.

So do you recommend that I take the convict back and just keep the other two? I don't want this tank to be heavily stocked

Wow I did not know these species could pair up with one another :/ will there be problems? And yeah I'll go with the raphael catfish and look into the pleco you've mentioned

I have kept pictus cats for years mine is 7 years old now. He has been with many tank mates over the years. I too thought they like to be in groups I started with 3. One died from stress of being beat up by the others. The second one I found dry on the floor he jumped out. The one I still have seems happy as an only. They fight over territory they don't want the other around. When pissed they make a weird sound at each other.

So what I am saying year a pictus cat would be a good choice. Some good size schooling fish would be fun don't get silver dollars they would get to big my biggest is 6".

Yeah I read that somewhere else too that single pictus can stay alone but I wasn't sure. For dithers I'm thinking of some sort of rainbows.
Other than that, I'm thinking of switching the con with a blue acara because convicts are really aggressive. Any opinions?
