COOL a big tank??!! URGENT!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
But we were leaving the old tank up only transferring one fish at a time. I could do a water exchange but don’t know if that’s wise either
Do I need to do the drip with the goldfish? He’s first...

Slow drip method?
getting a 35 gallon rubbermaid
How many gallons to start from the old tank ? (Still has fish can’t take it all)
Add fish to Rubbermaid
then set the drip to 1drop per hour until ?
Ending with y gallons?

If you set the drip rate to one drop per hour, you will kill the fish because water evaporates faster than that!

You don't need to do a drip at all, nor do you need to do any of the things I suggested. That procedure was intended to ease your mind about moving the fish. If this were my tank, I would fill it with water the same temp as the old tank, net the fish out of one tank and plop directly into the other. All three of us...goldfish, pleco, and I...would be happy as larks.

Make it as complicated as you wish, but be aware that you are just increasing your own stress level unnecessarily. Just reading about it...how many gallons to start, how many gallons to end, how many hours, etc...is increasing mine. Good luck with your project! :)

You really think it would be ok?
That’s what I started with in another post and got shot down lol
Once you go down that road of self doubt it’s so hard to go back!

When I throw fish from quarantine into my display tank I don't even look at the temperature.

Also you how many times I've been doing a water change and got Distracted and the water temperature ended up changing 4 or 5 degrees.

This shouldn't well really can't be rushed. Ice will work, more surface movement will work, my issue here is the root cause. If room temp is 75 tank shouldn't be 80! There is an issue other then cooling it down you need to figure it out or risk your fish dying. Just saying. Please double check thermometer accuracy, unplug heater see if it was the cause. It's not possible for the temp of the water to increase much past room temp without out side influence.
I agree with u 100% on that there gotta be sum thing else going on

I mean try regulate it ie if u have lid open it up for bit see if this brings it down is it sittin near any pipes ie hot water pipes might sound silly but little things like that can bring up temp

Is he ok?? Worried:
