This is hysterical your like my doppelganger. I'm a Java developer, try to out do every one, getting married in October, and low and behold am planning on breeding discus to fill out a monster plywood build I had in mind and I first saw Discus in Joey's videos. I swear I haven't seen this post till today haha.
The 150 with the sump was going to be a grow out.

Haha nice!

I first saw Discus in Joey's videos.

joey02 joey02 not only inspiring, but giving individuals the confidence!

Y Yulli good luck with your build! I can't wait to see the fish you get and how your project goes. Where do you think you will get your discus from? There are a lot of good places (stores and breeders) to choose from. I've been looking around and pricing things out. My fiance' wants me to start out with mid-grade, which I am okay with since I think they all look amazing!

Mid grade is good, They are awesome fish. You will get better income from them and probably better demand as well. Have you worked out logistics of packing and shipping them?

I can't wait to see this finished

Hendre Hendre I've thought about it, but I have not gone into much detail yet. Do you have any recommendation? I've read what they recommend on here (MFK) some, but again have not gone into a lot of detail.

On the shipping? It may be easiest to find a good supplier that will buy the fish off of you, it may be a bit less money but it's guaranteed sales and easier logistics. What I do know is that heat packs are necessary, make sure the bags fit tightly and methyline blue will help reduce the risk of ammonia burn. Hope it helps ;)

Hendre Hendre haha sorry, should have clarified better. You got it though, I was referring to the shipping and thank you for the advice, every little bit helps. I have been thinking about looking for a supplier, I am by no means looking at this to get rich. I really enjoy animals and I love discus so just trying to have a way for it to pay for itself and then maybe some day just do this.

Reactions: Hendre
I would one day like to try and breed some African Knife fish, not really documented in captivity. Right now I have 2 males so that won't happen.

More money for pets then :p
You can make some good sidemoney from this, although software doesn't sound too shabby either ;)

I was thinking of using a guy on AquaBid named Thefishman0904, some of his discus are good some not so good for a start. Then breeding in some higher quality lines and wilds when I feel more secure about the process. My only issue will be i haven't found a place to offload the extra fry. Most of the local stores won't be interested, I may have found one near my work but ill have to talk to them. Anyone got suggestions about how to get rid of the extra fry, like he said not looking for a business but to recoup a few dollars would be nice.

I was lookin at that guy too, his store is http://theifishstore.myshopify.com good reviews on AquaBid too. I was thinking about getting about 15 to start (5 of 3 different strains) at around 2" and let them pair up. Just have to pray there is one of each sex in each group. I can share my spreadsheet if you like, it has pricing and links to different breeders and suppliers.
