Discus Breeding System

I was lookin at that guy too, his store is http://theifishstore.myshopify.com good reviews on AquaBid too. I was thinking about getting about 15 to start (5 of 3 different strains) at around 2" and let them pair up. Just have to pray there is one of each sex in each group. I can share my spreadsheet if you like, it has pricing and links to different breeders and suppliers.

that would be awesome. yeah i was thinking something similar, with 5 of each breed the chances of not getting at least 1 M or F should be fairly low. something like 1/5 for each strain or .8% on the entire group. Not sure how picky you are but there are also a chance of interstrain pairs and my research has shown that you can force a pair if need be.

Y Yulli here you go my discus cost sheet, don't get me wrong there are tons of other options. These were just ones I looked at because I either liked their stock or have good things about them.

Very nice, i noticed that you listed Theifishstore at 19.99 the price online, did you consider trying to get them through aqua bid for less?

I did think about that and will probably go that route. I just wanted to have the higher price, but of course try to get them for less.

true, if it helps any ive seen his sets of 5 go up to 80 and still not meet reserve so the max savings is 10$ per 5. I haven't seen them hit 90 though so im not sure.

Maybe set up some classifieds for the extra fry, although that may saturate the market...

Hendre Hendre I would eventually like to get electric eels, but the timing would have to be perfect.
Why is that?

I would like to go and collect African knives from the wild and do an as natural as possible tank to try and induce spawning in captivity. Or with bichirs :p

I had a chance to get a yellow base black stripe discus at 4" for a 10usd but he woulda been a loner :(

I think they are really amazing, I also like the idea of hooking speakers up and listening to them. I recently went to public aquarium and they had an electric eel in there, it was about half the length of the aquarium it was in. Wonder if they weren't moving it because they didn't have somewhere for it or if they were afraid (rightly so).

That's cool. Basically all electric fishes can do that. The more blind knifefish and mormyrids come to mind and are a lot more manageable than an electric eel ;)

Hendre Hendre I had also looked at the electric catfish and may go with one of them. You are probably right though I should look at more manageable fish.

They also get big but very personable too. I find mormyrids to be very interesting and also they generally have a much more mild if not unfeelable shockwaves. One university had a christmas tree with lights pulsing to the pattern of a mormyrids electric pulses ;)
