Fishroom people vs. living room fish people

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have fish in the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, basement, and outside in the ponds and on the patio in the summer. Also in the summer I keep fish in barrels in my driveway.

All of my 50-ish tanks are in our basement laundry room / fishroom. My wife basically said, do what you want down there...but nothing in the rest of the house.

I've had tanks in the entry way, living room, dining room, etc. in the past and it was a constant battle to maintain them to the level that I expected for something in view of the family and guests.

The fishroom only needs to meet my expectations (clean water, healthy fish) :)

It's a wonderful, bubbly place to chill...do some laundry...drink some beer...etc.

Exactly. I miss the old times.

With seven children I am lucky to be able to impose, to order, to blackmail even, the ability to have a monster tank in the living room.

I therafter had to accept not to impose additional sound of sumps, bubbles, pumps and gurgles, as well as constant splashes, to the other 8 people that live with me on a constant basis.

Even so, with the big tank in the living room, I whistle to the side, when I see that a substantial part of the wood flooring in the vicinity of the tank is gone and parts of the living room floor is cement covered with tapestries. :)

And, beyond that, the guys have to accept the fact that they live in a house with snakes and parrots.....I cannot ask for more love and respect for the crazy old Father.

The only evidence of fish in our house proper is the low hum through the floor (of a big air pump)...

Definatly living room. I built a 26x16 addition for the living room on a slab... Last 10 feet are for the tank. This pic is still a work in progress, I had temporarily move to the new room. I missed the fish.anybody guess where I sit? ..

What i dislike in tanks in the living roo, is the, for me, negative impact of family life, television, etc, and its impact on fish biorythm at night.

That is why , no matter what, my living room tank is covered at ten pm. I mean totally covered.

Excellent points.

Not so sure about the biorythm...a full moon night is actually pretty bright in nature...

In any case, no matter what I am doing in the room, my school of loaches disappear after 9:30 or so every night, to the extent that you would not know there are 30+ 2"-5" loaches in the tank.
