Is this a true Hogaboomorum?

Got this fish a couple years ago from a coworker who had it (along with an oscar and jack dempsey) dumped on him by a friend that moved away. He looks like a hoga but it just doesnt make sense that the guy (who had them all in a 20g) would have such an uncommon fish. Pics are all within weeks of each other. He changes a lot from week to week. Super aggressive fish who loves to rearrange the tank.

That looks like so many types of Amphilophus to me, very hard to identify them at times.

Vieja mixed into amph. Maybe?! So hard to say I just see more vieja in the head shape

Vieja mixed into amph. Maybe?! So hard to say I just see more vieja in the head shape

Huh, i've gotten Vieja a few times now but to me he looks more like an uglier red terror. What about the head shape says vieja to you? I'm not super familiar with them.
