I changed the whole water 4 times. I think this is why it's taking time to cycle.

Doing a full waterchange doesn t kill your bacteria, cause they are in the substrate + filter, not in the water
This shouldn t be the problem

I think it's recommended that we change 50% water at once so as not to shock the microbes.

I suggest you keep the convict that tank and do normal weekly water changes for 2 months and then add another Oscar or any other fish

2 months would be safe. Suggest that you get some bottled bacteria to speed up the process . BTW where are you from ?
