I have the flower horn in a plastic tub and I don't know what to do about it. My sister loves the fish because its short bodied bonsai and doesn't want to get rid of it. Also heres a funny story, a few days before when I was doing water change when I saw the lap was looking funky, my friends came over for dinner and decided to help! one didn't know much of fish keeping and proceeded to take a bucket (which had my flower horn and some water sprite in it) and flushed it down the toilet thinking it was dirty water.

I was so scared but short story, I reached in the toilet seat and somehow the fish didn't get flushed down and i was able to scoop it out! what a traumatizing event! anyway just a quick story cause now when someone flushes the toilet I get chills.

also the lap is doing a lot better swimming like normal and acting normal, however, when I turn the lights off, he seems to curl his tail up again and then stop and do it at given times. Why is this and what should I do? Should I worry?

also the flower horn if I don't end up giving it away will probably live alone in the 30 gallon and the lap will move to the 100 gallon when the time comes. I will remember never to put the two together anymore.

Good choice keepim the the flower horn seperate thats the great thing about this hobby...we keep learning from mistakes and sometimes the fish dont cooperate with our plans even when we do correct those mistakes lol.

You should think about what you want to do with the 100 gal maybe more bichirs ? 100 gal osnt ideal for lower jaws but ypu would have a decent amount of time before it/they out grow it

okay thxs, also he has greenish light poop... is this a problem its small and i didn't feed him anything.... also he is getting skinnier and looks more like a stick than the fat poly it was before.

the observations are his fins are less red and the bottom bloody areas are less apparent and mostly gone. However, there is this weird stringy particle near his fins and underside? this might be slime? or a bacteria.

also, he stays in the same position most of the day and has his pectoral fins tucked in and not open. When I tap the glass or move something in the tank just to see him move, he seems to swim fine though is this a problem and also i am doing water changes every day. How long should i do this for and when do you predict he will get better. Also (not sure if you guys addressed this) do I add aquarium salt when i do water changes? My heater also broke 2 days ago (forgot to tell you) so the temp would be around 70 and not the usual 77-85 fahrenheit. Is heat necessary for this healing process?

yeah i am thinking some more bichirs and some severums and maybe even a datnoid lol to grow out and go into a bigger tank cause i have the money for it but just don't think I am ready for such a burden :).

Probably slime coat that may have shedded. This is one of the benefits of salt. It helps to stimulate slime coat production where it needs to be to produce a covering and prevent bacteria from getting in.

Would keep the water changes to every other day but also based on the results of water chemistry numbers.

Don't add anymore salt. Post some pics to see.

The temp at 78-80 is a good range for bichirs. Need a new heater. A temp of 70 isn't good and can result in a slow acting fish. That needs to be corrected asap, like today. Go to the store and get a heater.

High temps are used for ich treatment. Otherwise shouldn't use heat for treating infections. Some bacteria and infections become a problem when done.
