Help Bichir sick :(

The food can wait like tlindsey tlindsey mentioned. Stressed out fish will do this. For polys this is common.

Big thing is to wait. Adding food will make ur water poor in regards to quality. This will also add to the stress.

More important get on the water checks. This has to be pristine. This and salt will heal and get polypterus back to their normal state.
i added half of what I added last time like said previously as well also should I buy stress coat all i have right now is aquarium salt and dechlorinator, I also found a ph up and should I add the epsom salt now when he looks normal or just don't do it.

I dont think its rot because you ststed the fish just caught a beating. You didnt mention that it had these symptoms before hand and it looks similar to what ive seen on my poly that have gotten picked on

How big is the tank and besides the cichlid and lap any other occupants? I suspect water quality is playing a role.

Look at the fins on this poly. A little frayed. Its normal.

No need to add the stress coat. Don't add anymore salt to the tank. Don't add any meds to adjust the pH. Just only use the dechlorinator. Gotta make sure ur ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0 and ur nitrate is 20 or less. Should be good in the 100g once cleared up but gotta rely a lot on water changes and ur water parameters.

Jaws is right!

Just advice as but from what ive always read about flowerhorns is they are nasty hombres. This agression will likely carry over to the 100 gal too. Its the crappy part of this hobby but you may have to think about which fish you enjoy more and rehome the other. Not sure about the flowerhorn but the lap cant live in a 30 gal

I have the flower horn in a plastic tub and I don't know what to do about it. My sister loves the fish because its short bodied bonsai and doesn't want to get rid of it. Also heres a funny story, a few days before when I was doing water change when I saw the lap was looking funky, my friends came over for dinner and decided to help! one didn't know much of fish keeping and proceeded to take a bucket (which had my flower horn and some water sprite in it) and flushed it down the toilet thinking it was dirty water.

I was so scared but short story, I reached in the toilet seat and somehow the fish didn't get flushed down and i was able to scoop it out! what a traumatizing event! anyway just a quick story cause now when someone flushes the toilet I get chills.

also the lap is doing a lot better swimming like normal and acting normal, however, when I turn the lights off, he seems to curl his tail up again and then stop and do it at given times. Why is this and what should I do? Should I worry?

also the flower horn if I don't end up giving it away will probably live alone in the 30 gallon and the lap will move to the 100 gallon when the time comes. I will remember never to put the two together anymore.

Flowerhorns need to be by themselves.
