Help Bichir sick :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would keep the water changes to every other day but also based on the results of water chemistry numbers.

Don't add anymore salt. Post some pics to see.

The temp at 78-80 is a good range for bichirs. Need a new heater. A temp of 70 isn't good and can result in a slow acting fish. That needs to be corrected asap, like today. Go to the store and get a heater.

High temps are used for ich treatment. Otherwise shouldn't use heat for treating infections. Some bacteria and infections become a problem when done.
if the fish is slow what bad does that do? and can I just add some hot water and use a thermometer to see when it is around 77. I am probably unable to get a heater this week. I will go to petco and buy one on the weekends...

One it'll be very inactive. It won't feed well. The last thing you want is a sick fish not to eat.

Some fish and sick fish won't tolerate swings in temps.

A low temp will cause a decrease in immunity and may effect ability to fight off an infection. This from what I've read.

If not in the garage. Can always get one from Walmart. It'll likely be cheapest price wise.

really? they have them at walmart lol i'll go check!
i don't usually like buying these kinda things because good ones are around 30-40 bucks a piece. Do you know the average price at walmart?

Can get a 200w for $25.

Sorry if Walmart thing was obvious. Just if petco was is on ur mind and need a heater now and will be closed. Walmart is 24hrs, well the big ones are.

Okay, I will go check soon, my walmart is not the best for aquarium supplies... they have a small fish section with minimal amount of fish and not even sure if they have heaters. Will check though. (Couldn't find any in the garage) also the bichir is a lot better. shed more slime coat and seems like his pelvic and anal fins are growing back. Will keep posted. Also i know its necessary to have a good filter, but again all my things break lol and my fluvial 404 is cracked at the hose part. Would 2-3 10 gallon hang on the back filters be just as efficient as a small fluval canister filter? I am thinking of getting more of the handgun the backs cause they are easier to clean and make less noise in my opinion. what you guys think?

also if you are in the U.S Happy 4th of July! Hope you guys are having a great independence day cause i am :)
