Pair of Angel's in a 29gal with some dithers and be off to the races!
You could do bonding in this tank with a group of 6 but expect a lot of water changes until you do some rehoming.
I did 5 in a 20h and ended up with 2 pairs and a solo dickhead.

I vote shell dwellers, or rainbow cichlids. My pair of multispinosa.
Guys, A good fish for a 29 gallon is no fish that exceeds 6.5 inches!!! Not an Oscar, or Green Terror Cichlid! Although Angelfish can reach up to 6 inches, I think a pair would be cool.
If your going for a central/South American theme you could go with angels, GBR, some smaller crenicichla species (my person fav) or rainbowfish. Herotilapia multispinosa would also be really cool imo. Maybe go oddball with an african leaf fish? Gournamis could work too
Where are you from? I would like to buy some fishes. I am from the UK, https://postcodefinder.net/. If you were closer to me I would gladly buy from you. I usually get my fished from the specialized shop. But I will try to look around for similar forums in my location. People must be selling here the fishes too. I will tell you shortly about the results of my findings.
